Breaking the Crucible Record in Snooker

heywood snooker and pool

If you are playing snooker you have probably heard the term "maximum breaks". The maximum break in a frame is the highest. A player could break the maximum by potting all 15 of the reds or all 15 blacks in a single frame for 120 points. Another way to break the maximum is to pot all six colours in a single frame for 27 points.

Stephen Hendry's book 147

A record-breaking number of 47 has brought attention to the seven-time World Snooker champion. The break was made in the seventh frame of his match against Stuart Bingham, Sheffield. The world number one is currently defending his title and is on track for another major prize. Hendry however isn't convinced the extra incentive of a Crucible break of 147 is worth taking the risk.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made 15 competitive 147 breaks. His first came at the 1997 World Championship in Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. He was up against Elliot Slessor and Allan Taylor at the 2018 English Open. This is the fastest maximum achieved by a male player at the World Championship.

Jimmy White's 147

Jimmy White's 1992 break of 147 was one of the most iconic snooker breaks. This British professional was a great player and had a long career. He won the UK Championship, Masters and six World Championship finals. Despite his success, he never managed to win The Crucible.

Jimmy White's 147 vs Tony Drago

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Draga was regarded as one the most memorable billiards shots. It was struck by Tony Draga, the former world number 1. It was the fastest century split in a ranking race. Drago is a talented player but is not without faults. His temperament can be erratic and he's had bad play against the rest.

Jimmy White's 147 against Jimmy White

A break of 147 in table tennis is a huge achievement. This feat was achieved by Jim White in 1992. White broke the reds very early in a match against Steve Davis. After that, he seemed to be on track for his career-high 147. However, on his 10th black, he faced a long pot. After kissing off a red, White landed on black. This earned him PS114,000. After the match, Drago welcomed him with a warm welcome.
